What you can do for your relationship before beginning therapy

According to relationship expert John Gottman a relationship (whether it is a friendship, parent-child, spousal, etc.) must have 5 positives to every 1 negative.  This idea includes even the slightest nuances in facial expression and body language.  Here are examples:

Negative: Criticism, Negative Feedback, Doubt, Sarcasm, Rudeness, Envy, Self Serving, Anger, Tit for Tat, Disinterest, Passivity, Eye Rolling

Positive: Kindness, Patience, Honor, Supportive, Trust, Truth, Protection, Hopeful, Affection, Appreciation, Perseverance, Interest, Active Listening, Soft Engaging Eyes
